President Biden’s Upcoming Trip to the UK G7 Summit Will Include a Meeting With the Queen of England

On June 3, 2021, Buckingham Palace announced that U.S. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will be officially meeting with England’s Queen Elizabeth ll at Windsor Castle on June 13.

A current article on the CNN website reports that President Biden is already scheduled to take part in the G7 summit in the UK this coming week. For several days, Buckingham Palace and the White House have been working out the numerous details regarding his upcoming meeting with the Queen.

The trip to the United Kingdom will be Biden’s first overseas trip as U.S. president. Because of the public health pandemic, the Queen’s face-to-face meetings have been very limited during the past year.

The meeting with the U.S. President will be the first time Queen Elizabeth ll has met with another major head of state since her husband, Prince Philip passed away in April.

Queen Elizabeth ll is now 95 years old, and she sent President Biden a message earlier this year, congratulating him on his presidential win. The Bidens also sent a message of sympathy to the Queen following the death of Prince Philip.

In 2019, former President Donald Trump met with the Queen when he made an official visit to the United Kingdom. After their meeting, former President Trump said that the Queen had lots of fun during their visit.

With the exception of Lyndon Johnson, the Queen has held meetings with all sitting U.S. Presidents, since she came into power. Although the Queen has limited her travel and official visits, the meeting with the Bidens will continue the tradition of her meeting with each president.

When she was still a princess in 1951, Queen Elizabeth ll met former U.S. President Harry Truman. The following year, she became the Queen of England.

Along with former President Barack Obama, the Bidens visited with Prince Harry in Toronto, Canada, in 2017. Their visit was held at the Invictus Games, which is an international sports event that benefits active-duty and former military members.

In 2015, while he was still vice president, President Biden had the opportunity to meet with British Prince Charles of Wales and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.
