Bill Clinton Appointed Republican Maryanne Trump Barry To The Third Circuit U.S. Court Of Appeals in 1999
Maryanne Trump Barry is President Trump’s older sister. She is Fred and Mary Anne Trump’s first child. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Holyoke College, and she earned a Master of Arts in government and public law from Columbia. In 1974, she earned a Juris Doctor from Hofstra University. That same year she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
In 1983, President Reagan nominated her for a seat on the U.S. District Court of New Jersey. The Senate confirmed her nomination that same year. In 1985, she decided to recuse herself from a drug-trafficking case because her brother Donald had a relationship with the trafficker. But she stayed a U.S. district court judge until 1999. That’s when she got the news President Clinton appointed her to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Maryanne earned a reputation for being a tough judge. She sent two detectives to jail for protecting a drug dealer. And she was the judge who presided over the Louis Manna case. Manna was a member of the Genovese crime family. He played a role in the plot to assassinate rival crime boss John Gotti.
In 2006, Barry supported Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court. In 2011, Maryanne got senior judge status, and in 2017 she decided to take inactive senior judge status after her brother Donald won the presidential election. And in 2019, she formally retired as a federal judge.
In 2018, a New York Times investigation alleged Maryanne along with Fred Trump and the other Trump children engaged in illegal activity in order to limit their gift and estate tax liability. The tax liability was the result of Fred’s real estate business. Donald Trump owned a supply and maintenance company that allegedly did work for Fred Trump, but the company was a sham enterprise, according to the New York Times. Trump’s supply and maintenance company didn’t do any work for Fred Trump, so the money the company received from Fred’s company was a gift subject to taxes.
Maryanne Kept Quiet About her Relationship With Brother Donald Until Mary Trump Interviewed Her
When Maryanne retired as a federal judge in 2017, she didn’t talk about brother Don in public. But when her niece Mary Trump asked her to give her information about the president in 2018 and 2019, she didn’t hold back her feelings about her younger brother.
Mary audio-recorded her conversations with her aunt without Maryanne’s knowledge, and those recordings fell in the hands of the Washington Post, recently. Mary’s book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man, became a bestseller overnight. But now that the recordings are public knowledge, the White House claims Maryanne’s comments about her brother don’t describe the president’s personality.
Barry Claims Her Brother Is A Liar And A Phony
Maryanne didn’t know Mary recorded her comments, so she let loose and told Mary what she thought about her brother. According to Maryanne, Mr. Trump has no principles, and all he cares about is himself. During the 15-hour interview, Mary said Donald lies and changes his stories all the time, and he never reads. She also said a friend took Donald’s SAT, so he could attend the University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Barry called Don Sr. a cruel, untrustworthy phony. Maryanne also claims Don Sr. main objective is to appeal to his base supporters in any way he can, and that includes lying and tweeting inappropriate comments.
But Maryanne did say she and her brother had a close relationship at one time. When she had surgery several years ago, Donald came to the hospital every day to see her. But 83-year-old Maryanne claims she and Donald had a falling out, and that’s one reason she didn’t attend her brother Robert’s recent funeral at the White House.
