A Comeback That Dreams Are Made of
Back in the late 1990s and early aughts, actor Brendan Fraser was practically a ubiquitous presence. Starring in The Mummy franchise, he cemented his status as one of Hollywood’s most lovable leading men. Somewhere along the way, however, Fraser’s phone suddenly stopped ringing. And it was at the worst possible time. Beset by injuries incurred from his time doing difficult stunts, Fraser would find himself undergoing several surgeries. Meanwhile, his marriage also fell apart and he was harassed by one of the head honchos from a popular award show. It was a recipe for career catastrophe, and it wasn’t long before Fraser started to feel the strain.
Where Is Brendan Fraser?
Although the forces that be may have attempted to keep Fraser down for a bit, audiences were often asking where the popular actor had gone. In order to avoid sinking into the acting abyss completely, the former movie star made it work. He booked smaller character roles on TV shows, such as his terrifying turn as Gunther in “The Affair”, but it turned out that audiences craved much more Fraser than that. His hardcore fans even gave a name to his return to the screen. The “Brenaissance”, as it would affectionately become known as, seemed to stir something in the hearts of even the most hard-nosed film fans.
Big Directors Take Notice
Suddenly, the swell of attention and love from Twitter finally make a tangible impact. It was announced that Fraser would be acting in Darren Aronofsky’s newest film, playing a 600-pound man. After that, Fraser received the ultimate feather in his comeback cap. Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated project, Killers of the Flower Moon, asked him to come aboard. Now, Fraser would be acting alongside fellow legends Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. For someone who had spent the past few years in semi-obscurity, it was truly a remarkable feat. On a public chat with a fan, Fraser even admitted that he felt a bit nervous about the upcoming gig. If the past is any kind of a guide, however, Fraser will come out of this experience beautifully. With audiences applauding his every move, it would appear that the only way for this great actor is up.
