Floyd Mayweather is one of the iconic athletes in the world. He is a boxing star who has ever won even the most challenging matches against other famous and unforgiving boxers like Conor McGregor. Floyd’s victory over McGregor in 2017 earned him an unparalleled record of 50 – 0, surpassing Rocky Marciano’s 49 – 0. Furthermore, he hit the record as the highest-paid athlete in December 2019. His earning surpassed even the most known athletes like Christiano Ronaldo, Tiger Woods, and even Lebron James, to mention a few. In a press conference with his next match opponent, LoganPaul, on June 6, Floyd described what it takes to be excellent in one’s career and life. Here are some of his insights:
Relate with a Supportive Team
Mayweather stated that his victory has come along due to a relentless collaboration with a strong team. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s promotion CEO, had a significant contribution to Mayweather’s career growth. Al Haymon, Mayweather’s longtime advisor, has also been a critical player in Mayweather’s glory since 2006. The late Shannon Merrick was the best Mayweather’s lawyer. She helped him go through tough times in prison in 2012. Together with Floyd’s daughter and Leonardo Ellerbe, Shannon wrote letters daily and constantly visited him while in prison. Such a collaborative team and leaders made Floyd develop into the icon athlete he is today. Sometimes, life situations can be overwhelming. Therefore, it takes one to intervene with a supportive team for help and guidance.
Believe in Your Abilities When no One Does
Together with his advisors, Mayweather’s decision to leave his top rank in 2006 was a great start to his career victory. He was offered $8 million to fight Antonio Margarito but declined and instead left his top rank. Before leaving his top rank, Mayweather asked for a $20 million offer to fight De La Hoya. However, his advisors and promotion companies were not interested in his decision and saw no possibility in his stance. The team saw it as a risk and decline his decision. Later, Mayweather’s decision paid off when he won a fight against De La Hoya and won $20 million. His team of advisors did not believe in Mayweather’s abilities. Sometimes, it requires one to take more risk in a career for a distinctive victory, even if no one believes in your abilities. Taking a higher risk is what earns an individual better pay in a particular business.
Floyd Mayweather’s principles have made him become a great athlete globally. It requires a positive mind and a supportive team for life success. Trying the unchartered waters is a path to fame and a great career victory. Also, an individual needs being different to earn a competitive advantage over the other career peers.
